Oldham Council’s Allocations Scheme was last reviewed in 2019. Since this time there has been a rise in demand for social housing in the borough. Fewer socially rented properties are available to let and there has been a significant increase in the use of and demand for temporary and emergency accommodation for homeless households. We now have nearly 8,000 households on the Housing Register and many of these have little or no prospect of receiving an offer of accommodation.
There is a need to review and make changes to the Scheme to ensure the council is able to help those most in need and make best use of the limited housing stock that is available. We would like to hear your views on our proposed changes. We will consider all responses in the new year and the council’s Cabinet will then review the new policy in October 2025. If Cabinet approves the new policy, it will be implemented from November 2025.
This survey will run from Monday 22nd September to Friday 24th October 2025.
